Polarizing filter experiment

Before going to Mallorca for a weeks holiday recently I got hold of a Polarizing filter for my Nikkor 16-68mm lens. I was interested to see if I could recreate some of the results I’d seen other photographers achieve with respect to contrast and reflections as I’d become a little frustrated by a lot of my pictures looking washed out.

I’ve only done some basic research into how the polarizing filter works, it’s a little beyond this blog entry so I wont expand further.

I was quite pleased with the results. The photo on the left of both examples is 0 degrees rotation, with the photo on the right being 90 degrees. I made the mistake of mounting the polarizing filter on top of my UV Filter which is why the filter rim has become visible in the top of the picture. Schoolboy error, but I’m no expert.
